No. 22 Dated 28 February 2025

Message From Mrs Dance

Dear Parents and Carers,

Welcome back to the second half of the spring term. I hope that you all had a lovely week.

School has resumed as it always does with a hive of learning and engagement. This week Year 1 and 2 have had the exciting adventure of travelling off site to experience a curriculum enrichment trip. On Tuesday, Year 1 went to the Portsmouth Sea Life Centre as part of their science learning. They saw turtles, sharks and really enjoyed learning all about underwater habitats. Today, Year 2 have been to the Winchester science museum, they were really looking forward to experiencing the planetarium. On both trips the children enhanced their scientific knowledge and enquiry skills. They were all exemplary in their behaviour, following our High 5 rules brilliantly. Well done Year 1 and 2!

The Junior Governors are well underway with their house name rebranding. They have worked with Miss Marta to design house logos and the next step is to paint them, digitise them and turn the images into flags. I cannot wait to see the finished designs! Their aim is to have this all completed and shared with the school and parents by the end of spring 2.

Congratulations to our boy’s football team, who played against St John the Baptist yesterday afternoon. Mr. Christmas (who drove them there in the minibus) said that they played the best that he had seen them play. They were fantastic role models for the school and worked brilliantly as a team.

Wishing you all a lovely weekend.

Mrs. Dance

Remembering Ben

Ben Francis20 years ago today, a tragic accident in our school car park resulted in the death of Ben Francis, who was a pupil of the school. Ben was 6 years old.

We have refreshed the hanging baskets by Ben's plaque and our thoughts are with all of Ben's family and friends today.

As we remember Ben, we ask our school community to remain vigilant and mindful of safety at all times.

Every vehicle has the potential to cause devastating accidents, whether on the road or within a car park. Please take extra care when walking with your children and, when driving or parking, be slow, respectful, and fully aware of your surroundings.

Let’s honour Ben’s memory by prioritising safety and looking out for one another.

Thank you for your cooperation and care.

Attendance this week

Please think carefully before keeping your child away from school.

As parents and carers you have a responsibility to inform the school before 9.00am every day if your child will not be in school, this can be done via the Arbor app, by emailing the attendance email address: attendance@vigo.hants.sch.uk or by calling the school and selecting option 1.

More about attendance at Vigo >>

Lateness

We have recently noticed a significant rise in lateness.

Please ensure your child is at school at 8:35am ready for the school day. You may be invited into school for a meeting with our Attendance Support Worker if lateness is persistent. Unfortunately, due to updated government guidelines, non-attendance of this meeting could result in a penalty notice or referral to the Legal Intervention Team.

The first is to be kind.

The second is to be kind.

And the third is to be kind.”

Spring Flowers

While we understand how temptingImage result for dafodills it is to pick them, please remember that wild flowers need to be left where they are so they can complete their life cycle and produce seeds ready for next spring. All the daffodils and other flowers that the council have planted belong to the council and picking them is legally seen as theft.

Year 2 kicked off the half term in style today with a visit from members of the Hampshire & IOW Fire & Rescue service. The children learnt lots about the variety of different roles the firefighters take on in the community as well as some very important tips to make their homes a safer environment. The children (and staff - shout out to Miss Horsfield and Mrs Williams) engaged superbly with all of the activities throughout and the firefighters commented on the respect and motivation our pupils showed - well done to all!

Miss Marta has been busy today displaying some of the children's phenomenal art pieces which they created last half term. You can see Year 3's bird sculptures hanging from the ceiling, Year 4's three-dimensional sculptures based on themselves and Year 2's mono-prints based on local architecture. I'm sure you'll agree some very impressive work on show. Well done to all of our Artists who have worked with Miss Marta last half term - we look forward to seeing what you can produce in the upcoming weeks!
