No. 25 Dated 21 March 2025

Message From Mrs Dance

Dear Parents and Carers,

Welcome to the fourth newsletter of spring 2. Spring has finally arrived, and it has brought some summer weather with it!

My assemblies this week have introduced the children to the Paralympian visiting our school on Monday 31st March. Kylie Grimes won a gold medal in the 2020 Paralympics, a fantastic achievement and an excellent role model to introduce to our children.

Over the past two weeks, I have joined classes across the school to share in their learning and monitor the teaching and learning that takes place daily in the school. It has been fantastic to observe excellent learning behaviours, highly effective teaching and strong outcomes for all the children by the end of each lesson.

This week we have also hosted both our face-to-face and virtual parent consultations afternoons. I do hope that you found these meetings useful; giving you valuable insight into the progress that your children are making, as well as being made aware of their next steps on their learning journey.

At Vigo, we pride ourselves on supporting our community, both local and national. Thank you for your generous donations today on Red Nose Day (as soon as we know how much we have raised we will let you know) and for the amazing £232 raised to support Andover Young Carers.

Wishing you all a wonderful weekend.

Mrs. Dance

Headteacher

Attendance this week

Please think carefully before keeping your child away from school.

As parents and carers you have a responsibility to inform the school before 9.00am every day if your child will not be in school, this can be done via the Arbor app, by emailing the attendance email address: attendance@vigo.hants.sch.uk or by calling the school and selecting option 1.

Lateness

We have recently noticed a significant rise in lateness.

Please ensure your child is at school at 8:35am ready for the school day. You may be invited into school for a meeting with our Attendance Support Worker if lateness is persistent. Unfortunately, due to updated government guidelines, non-attendance of this meeting could result in a penalty notice or referral to the Legal Intervention Team.

Thank You

We would like to say thank you to our Hungarian and Romanian families who joined us this week to share their thoughts and ideas on how we can improve our communication to parents and the support we offer for all children who have English as an Additional Language. We were joined by a member of the EMTAS team who speaks both Romanian and Hungarian. Vigo staff found this meeting extremely useful and we have been able to learn much about the traditions and culture of these countries. Look out for some cultural events in the future when we will be celebrating the important festivals for these children and their families.

News from our Rainforest Class

The children who attend the Rainforest class took part in British Science Week. We had lots of fun setting our own investigations and science experiments. We made sun dials to tell the time, lava lamps to watch what happens when you mix chemicals together, explored bubble solution and attempted to blow bubbles inside bubbles. We also used our inference and prediction skills when exploring what happens when you add soap solution to a mixture of milk and food colouring. We will be writing up our experiments into a science booklet which links to our English work on writing in different formats for different audiences.

This was a fantastic way of supporting the children’s speech and language skills whilst having fun and finding out about different aspects of science.

Attendance matters and here at Vigo families have been working hard to navigate the expectations and rules around school attendance which are stipulated by the government. We had amazing attendance statistics last half term!! Well done to all the children and families. Here is some helpful information to support us to improve attendance even further.
