No. 28 Dated 25 April 2025

Message From Mrs Dance

Dear Parents and Carers,

Welcome back to the summer term. I hope that you all enjoyed a wonderful Easter; the children have been excitedly telling me about their Easter Egg hunts, adventures on holiday and how many chocolate eggs that they have eaten!

We have started the term thinking about protecting our planet. On Tuesday it was Earth day. My assemblies this week have been reminding the children of the importance of our role in having a positive effect on climate change. We have decided as a school to action three things:

  1. Develop a garden and plant more pollinators: Mr H (Forest school Lead) and the Junior Governors are on the case with this.
  2. Turn the lights off when we leave a room empty: Each class is going to have light ambassadors who will ensure that this happens.
  3. Be better at recycling: Miss Horsfield, Mr Baker and I are looking into ways that we can recycle as much as we possibly can.

Already this term two-year groups have been on enrichment experiences; Year R spent the day on Wednesday at Finkley Down Farm and Year 5 spent the day immersed in Tudor history at Hampton Court on Thursday. Both year groups returned full of excitement about their day and all the adults shared how brilliant the children were, exemplifying our MIRROR values. With members of the public commenting on how polite and well-behaved the children were. What an excellent start to our summer learning journey!

Finally, I would like to share a fantastic achievement in sportImage preview by two of our children. Both Molly and Tiana (in Yr3) won their final matches in the Hampshire Girls Youth Football League.  Molly’s team (New Street Snow team) won the cup final. Tiana’s team (New Street Ice team) won the plate final. Congratulations to both girls!

Wishing you all a lovely weekend.

Attendance this week

Please think carefully before keeping your child away from school.

As parents and carers, you have a responsibility to inform the school before 9.00am every day if your child will not be in school, this can be done via the Arbor app, by emailing the attendance email address: attendance@vigo.hants.sch.uk or by calling the school and selecting option 1.

Lateness

We have recently noticed a significant rise in lateness.

Please ensure your child is at school at 8:35am ready for the school day. You may be invited into school for a meeting with our Attendance Support Worker if lateness is persistent. Unfortunately, due to updated government guidelines, non-attendance of this meeting could result in a penalty notice or referral to the Legal Intervention Team.

Quote of the Week

“I think probably kindness is my number one attribute in a human being. I’ll put it before any of the things like courage, or bravery, or generosity, or anything else… Kindness—that simple word.

To be kind—it covers everything, to my mind. If you’re kind that’s it.”

Parking

Can we remind all Parents and Carers not to park on the grass verges or by dipped curbs on Vigo Road. Parking here blocks pathways used by wheelchair users and parents with pushchairs, and obstructs lines of sight, causing further safety issues.

We have had complaints from residents of Vigo road that they have been unable to leave their homes to take their own children to school, or go to work, because cars have been parked blocking their driveways.

Please be aware that parking enforcement officers have been requested. Parking on footpaths, across dipped kerbs or on yellow lines can result in a penalty charge notice being issued.

Year 6 Graduation

We have been given a provisional date of the morning of Monday 14th July for the Yr6 Graduation at The Lights.

We will be given a very limited number of tickets, this is usually only enough for one per child. Once we have the tickets from The Lights we will send out a letter confirming all these details.
