No. 29 Dated 2 May 2025

Message From Mrs Dance

Dear parents and carers,

I hope that you have all had a great week, what glorious weather we have had!

I’m delighted to share some exciting news with you. A few months ago, Miss Marta enroled our school in an Eco-Art Challenge, and I’m delighted to announce that one of our children is a winner! Congratulations to:

by Delilah (Brazil Class)

Children from KS1 were invited to showcase their creativity by creating their favourite tree. They had a fantastic lesson about the importance of caring for trees and our environment, which inspired around 30 incredible artworks! Today, the Mayor, Cllr and Mrs Jeffrey attended Owlet Assembly alongside Mr Richard Barnes, CCP associate and former deputy mayor of London, and representatives from So Recycle, the sponsor of the Andover Eco Art Challenge, to congratulate Delilah and give her her award. Delilah has won £50 for herself and £200 for the school. We are going to use the money to purchase a printing machine that will be used in art lessons. Congratulations Delilah!

Yesterday was the start of May and also the start of Walk to School week. As part of our travel plan, we are encouraging as many families as possible to use the park and stride scheme. Please click on the link to the page on our school website to find out more information: Vigo Primary School - Travel Plan

Finally, next Thursday 8th May, is VE day. At school we will be having a week of activities to highlight this important day. The children will listen to assemblies, talks from visitors as well as celebrating with VE Day activities on the actual day. I cannot wait to see all the children and staff in their dress to impress outfits on Thursday. I look forward to welcoming you all after school on Thursday to our VE celebration family picnic.

Wishing you all a lovely bank holiday weekend.

Mrs. Dance

Headteacher

Attendance this week

Please think carefully before keeping your child away from school.

As parents and carers, you have a responsibility to inform the school before 9.00am every day if your child will not be in school, this can be done via the Arbor app, by emailing the attendance email address: attendance@vigo.hants.sch.uk or by calling the school and selecting option 1.

More about attendance at Vigo >>

Lateness

We have recently noticed a significant rise in lateness.

Please ensure your child is at school at 8:35am ready for the school day. You may be invited into school for a meeting with our Attendance Support Worker if lateness is persistent. Unfortunately, due to updated government guidelines, non-attendance of this meeting could result in a penalty notice or referral to the Legal Intervention Team.

Nest Box Camera

We have a Bird Box on the tree just outside the school office with a camera in it, which is connected to the TV in the office. We have blue-tits nesting this year! Currently, we can see 7 eggs, and they are being sat on most of the day.

VE Day Celebration

On Thursday 8 May we will be celebrating the 80th Anniversary of VE Day. As well as a dress down day, we invite parents to join us for a celebration on the field after school 3:15pm - 4:30pm.

We have an ice-cream van booked to attend, and will be providing tea, coffee and squash.

Please bring your own picnic to enjoy with your children after school; no alcohol or nuts.

If you and your children are able to dress appropriately for a 1940's street party, we would love to see it, but please do not feel you need to go out and buy new outfits.
