Newsletter Number 39   -   18 July 2025

Message From Mrs Dance

Dear parents and carers,

We have finally arrived at the last newsletter of this academic year, the year has flown by again!

It has been a year of many successes; the children have represented our school at many different events. All of our external visitors have commented positively on the behaviour and attitudes of the children as well as their learning progress and outcomes.

On Tuesday we say farewell to Year 6. I can honestly say that the Year 6 children have been an absolute credit to our school community. Their hard work and motivation culminated this week in the musical spectacular – ‘Star Warts - The Umpire Strikes Back’. Both performances were amazing! I was blown away by their acting, singing and ability to learn so many lines and deliver them so confidently and eloquently. It was a fantastic end to the school year and a great way for the children to end their primary school experience.

At this time in the school year, we sadly say goodbye to some staff members. Goodbye and good luck to Mrs Roach, Mrs Bryan, Miss Bowyer and Miss Styles-Nicel who are leaving us on Tuesday, I wish you all the best in your next adventures.

To all of Year 6, and those staff and families who are leaving us, remember that you have been a part of a team that wants the best for you, and we will always be here to support you. Once a member of team Vigo, always a member of team Vigo!

Thank you to the fantastic Friends of Vigo PTA. As a result of their generosity of time and spirit, they will be donating in September a magnificent £1,500.00. We met yesterday afternoon, and they have some great ideas for next year. If you can spare the time to help and support them, I know that they would love for you to join the team. Thank you to everyone for attending the events and your ongoing support of the PTA and our school.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank you, the children and staff for making this year such a positive and successful one. I look forward to working with you all again in the next academic year.

Whatever your plans are for the summer, I hope that you have a relaxing and enjoyable time.

See you all in September!

Mrs. Dance

Attendance this week

Please think carefully before keeping your child away from school.

As parents and carers, you have a responsibility to inform the school before 9.00am every day if your child will not be in school, this can be done via the Arbor app, by emailing the attendance email address: attendance@vigo.hants.sch.uk or by calling the school and selecting option 1.

More about attendance at Vigo >>

Lateness

We have recently noticed a significant rise in lateness.

Please ensure your child is at school at 8:35am ready for the school day.

You may be invited into school for a meeting with our Attendance Support Worker if lateness is persistent.

Unfortunately, due to updated government guidelines, non-attendance of this meeting could result in a penalty notice or referral to the Legal Intervention Team.

Quote of the Week

Thank you!

Some of our wonderful children, led by Bailey in Jamaica class, formed the "Sticky Stickers" group. These children designed, made and sold stickers.

They have raised an amazing £179 for the school!

We are going to discuss with the children how they think this money would best benefit the school, and ensure that the funds are spent directly on something they feel would be useful.

Head Lice

We have been made aware of head lice in school. We would ask ALL parents to check hair and treat as necessary. It is recommended that all parents check their child’s hair at least weekly.

Lice and nits can be removed by wet combing. Wash hair with ordinary shampoo, apply lots of conditioner. Comb the whole head of hair with a fine-toothed lice detection comb, from the roots to the ends.

Wet comb on days 1, 5, 9 and 13 to catch any newly hatched head lice. Check again that everyone's hair is free of lice on day 17.

Please be aware the school is not responsible for undertaking any vetting checks for out-of-school, third-party activity providers.

Vigo Primary School
Year 1 enjoyed a fabulous geography field trip in the local area today. They were investigating rubbish and the availability of bins in the local park. They took the opportunity to test out their recently procured knowledge of money to buy a cookie and then receive and count their change. A very successful trip, where children were able to showcase their growing knowledge of the year 1 curriculum. The children were great role models for the school and exemplified the school MIRROR values perfectly.
