Autumn 1 Topic
In year 1 we have been looking at how the Wright Brothers designed and created their first plane. We have been acting out how the Wright brothers felt and worked on their plane in a drama session. We also found a suitcase and using our investigation skills we worked out that the suitcase belonged to Amelia Earheart!
Year 1 has also been working hard on there English work, we have been looking at Where the Wild Things are and The Planes Royal Rescue. We are getting much better at remembering out finger spaces, full stops and capital letters. We have been working hard on using our phonics to sound out and write words. In Maths we have been working practically to solve problems including adding, counting in 2's and half of shapes, quantities and objects.
In science we started our longitudinal studies looking at trees and the different seasons and weather.

Welcome back for a fun and exciting Autumn 2!!
We have lots going on this half term. Our topic is called Polar Explorers and we will be comparing Antarctica to Kenya. We also have a focus on toys from the past so if any parents or grandparents have any toys that they would like to share with us we would very much appreciate it, even if it's just a photo of the toy! We have our first school trip to Milestones Museum and if any parents out there would like to join us please let your class teacher know ASAP.
It's also that special time of year coming up ... Christmas!! When everyone gets very excited about seeing Santa and his reindeer!
We hope you have all had a chance to read the letter we sent out on Friday but in case you did not then we are inviting all parents to join their children on a Friday morning to read with your child. We are opening the door at 8:30 so 5 minutes earlier than usual and closing at 9 in the hopes that you can join us after dropping off any other children or can squeeze in 5 minutes of reading before you set off to work. Added Bonus!! You can write it in their home reading record and it will count towards their 25 reads and receiving their book during Owlets assembly!
We look forward to spending time with you and your child while sharing a book together!
