No. 30 Dated 9 May 2025

Message From Mrs Dance

Dear parents and carers,

This week has flown by, a four-day week always does!

Even though we have been at school for one less day, we have still managed to cram in lots of amazing enrichment and learning experiences for the children. This week has had a theme of VE Day. The children have had the opportunity to learn more about WWII via a number of learning opportunities; assemblies led by myself and an invited WWII specialist; talking to those who experienced WWII and VE day both in school and by visiting a local nursing home and lessons taught within class.

We finished this learning experience with our Dress to impress dress down day and VE day family picnic. It was wonderful to see so many of you there. The tea, cakes and ice creams went down a treat, and it was fantastic to see the poppies that the children had made being purchased. All the money that we have raised at the event will be donated to veteran charities. As soon as we have a total, we will update you all.

I am delighted to share that Zach in Y6 won another Gold medal at a Brazilian Jiu-jitsu competition last weekend. He fought so hard and it was a well-deserved win.

Jacob, Zach's older brother also entered his first Brazilian Jiu-jitsu Competition at Sportsdock University of East London today and won a Gold medal too!

Congratulations to both Zach and Jacob!

Next week, Y6 will be sitting their end of KS2 SAT tests. I am so proud of each and every one of them, they have worked so hard all year and I am in no doubt that they will achieve great things next week.

Wishing you all a lovely weekend.

Mrs. Dance

Attendance this week

Please think carefully before keeping your child away from school.

As parents and carers, you have a responsibility to inform the school before 9.00am every day if your child will not be in school, this can be done via the Arbor app, by emailing the attendance email address: attendance@vigo.hants.sch.uk or by calling the school and selecting option 1.

More about attendance at Vigo >>

Lateness

We have recently noticed a significant rise in lateness.

Please ensure your child is at school at 8:35am ready for the school day. You may be invited into school for a meeting with our Attendance Support Worker if lateness is persistent. Unfortunately, due to updated government guidelines, non-attendance of this meeting could result in a penalty notice or referral to the Legal Intervention Team.

Thank you to all the children and families who attended our afternoon tea party picnic on the field after school. It was brilliant to see so many families joining in with games and enjoying an ice cream. Also a big thank you to all the staff who were able to give up their time to help with setting up, staying late and ensuring the smooth and successful running of a fabulous event. We really are lucky at Vigo to have the best of the best!

Today's VE Day celebrations saw us welcome visitor Nick Davies who shared many of his collectables from WW2. All children in the school go the chance to ask questions and handle the artefacts. The feedback from children was overwhelmingly positive and we know they will remember this wonderful experience!
