Message From Mrs Dance
Dear parents and carers,
It was wonderful to see so many of you at the Armed Forces afternoon at Vigo Park last Saturday. Our amazing choir sang beautifully and coped really well in the searing heat. They were a fitting final act of the event. Congratulations to the choir and Mrs Weymouth, you are all FANTASTIC!
This week has been transition week. Our fabulous Year 6’s spent the day at their new secondary schools. They returned on Wednesday excited and ready for the next adventure. Our school transition day went really well. The children spent the day in their new environments with the adults in their year group. We will continue this transition process in different ways to support all of our children so that the transition in September is highly effective.
As you know, I am working with the Travel Planning department to ensure that the roads and pathways around our school site are safe for our children, yourselves and the wider community. I know that the use of bikes and scooters on the pathway directly adjacent to our school playground is a dangerous hazard. I have emailed my contact in the travel planning department as well as the Head teacher of Winton school again yesterday, to share our growing safety concerns and requesting, again, that we work together to resolve this issue. The next step is to galvanise the school community to share our concerns to the council and departments that have any power to make a change. On Monday I will be emailing out to the parent body, a Google Doc form requesting that you add your name and share any details of incidents that you have witnessed or been involved in. We have already spoken to Councillor Andersen, who has agreed to take the finalised document to the council. By working together, we will have more chance of persuading the local authority to make the necessary changes. As soon as I have any updates, I will communicate them to you all.
As a school, safeguarding is our number one priority, to that end, we have been made aware of a cartoon on You Tube called: 'Italian Brain Rot.’ Lots of our children appear to know what it is. We have investigated this cartoon and discovered the following:
‘While some content is harmless and humorous, there are concerns that the underlying themes and imagery can be rooted in racism and misogyny. Some creators have been accused of manipulating the original content to make it more appealing to children, while still retaining some of the harmful elements.’
To ensure your child’s safety please remain vigilant whilst they are online. To find out more about this cartoon please click in the following link: What Is Italian Brainrot? A Guide For Parents - The Table Read Magazine
Wishing you all a lovely weekend.
