Message From Mrs Dance

Dear parents and carers,

Welcome to the first newsletter for this academic year.

We have started the year with a great attendance percentage of 97%! Thank you to you all for your ongoing support of the school and your children, enabling them to come to school on time and ready to learn.

I have met with the Sticky Stickers group, and they are in the process of deciding what they would like to buy with the £179 they raised. Once we have a full plan I will let you know.

On Tuesday I had the pleasure of joining Mr Stott and the Junior Governors on a trip to Parliament. We met Kit Malthouse where the children demonstrated their reporting skills, asking him some very thought-provoking questions. We had the opportunity to walk around the Houses of Parliament and sit in the House of Lords as well as exploring the oldest part of the building The Great Hall. Once we had eaten lunch in the park adjacent to Parliament, we then went on an exciting tour to see the sights. We saw Big Ben, Westminster Abbey, Downing Street and finally the London Eye. It was a brilliant day. The children were exemplary in their behaviour, demonstrating our school values throughout the day. The tour guides, as well as Mrs Johnson and Mrs Tucker (school governors who joined us for the day) were very complimentary of the children and expressed how sensible and respectful they were.

Next week, you will have an opportunity to meet your child’s class teacher and the Year team as part of our Parent Information Meetings. This will be an opportunity to ask any questions and find out more about the curriculum and exciting learning adventures that will be taking place this year. We look forward to seeing you there. (Details of when and where will be emailed to you via the school office).

A HUGE CONGRATULATIONS to Molly, in Year 4, who, last weekend, alongside her New Street Swifts football team won the Winchester Tournament. Molly saved a crucial goal and is demonstrating fantastic skills as a brilliant goalkeeper!

Following a highly successful week here at school, I wish you all a lovely weekend.

Attendance this week

Please think carefully before keeping your child away from school.

As parents and carers, you have a responsibility to inform the school before 9.00am every day if your child will not be in school, this can be done via the Arbor app, by emailing the attendance email address: attendance@vigo.hants.sch.uk or by calling the school and selecting option 1.

Lateness

We have recently noticed a significant rise in lateness.

Please ensure your child is at school at 8:35am ready for the school day.

You may be invited into school for a meeting with our Attendance Support Worker if lateness is persistent.

Unfortunately, due to updated government guidelines, non-attendance of this meeting could result in a penalty notice or referral to the Legal Intervention Team.

Parking

Can we remind all Parents and Carers not to park on the grass verges or by dipped curbs on Vigo Road. Parking here blocks pathways used by wheelchair users and parents with pushchairs, and obstructs lines of sight causing further safety issues.

We have had complaints from residents of Vigo road that they have been unable to leave their homes to take their own children to school, or go to work, because cars have been parked blocking their driveways.

Please be aware that parking enforcement officers have been requested. Parking on footpaths, across dipped kerbs or on yellow lines can result in a penalty charge notice being issued.

Sports Achievements We are so proud to share some great news relating to out of sporting achievements. Molly, a current Year 4 Pupil, who plays for Andover New Street Swifts was part of the team who won the Winchester Tournament recently. Molly, the Swifts goalkeeper, demonstrated her inner "Hannah Hampton" saving a crucial penalty which helped the team on their way to victory! Well done to Molly and to all of the New Street swifts team! You've clearly demonstrated our MIRROR value of "motivation" outside of school and should be so proud of your achievements
