Newsletter Number 3   -   26 September 2025

Message From Mrs Dance

Dear parents and carers,

I hope that the third newsletter of the autumn term finds you all well.

This week, Mr Dockree and I have had the pleasure of spending time in most classes across the school. In every classroom, we have observed excellent learning behaviours from the children. The highly skilled teachers and learning support assistants are providing the children with wonderful learning experiences that are ensuring that the children make strong progress in each lesson and are challenged to be the very best versions of themselves. We cannot wait to visit the final classes next week!

I am delighted to share that Vaughan, in year 3, was awarded Coach's Player of the Year in the Broughton U9 cricket team at the end of this season. He has worked really hard on bowling, batting and fielding all season, and is continuing to train with Andover CC over the winter. Congratulations Vaughan!

Today is National Teaching Assistants’ Day. We have amazing LSA’s at Vigo and I would like to take this opportunity to celebrate them, and thank them for all the amazing work they do.

This October, we will be joining the Hampshire Travel Planning Departments Walktober initiative. As part of this, we will be talking to the children and reminding them of road safety as well as signposting them to our wonderful Mrs Wood (School Crossing Patrol), who is there every morning to keep everyone safe when crossing the road. Please can you also remind your children of these road safety rules, especially as we begin to enter into the autumn and winter months.

Wishing you all a lovely weekend.

Yours faithfully

Mrs Dance

Attendance this week

Please think carefully before keeping your child away from school.

As parents and carers, you have a responsibility to inform the school before 9.00am every day if your child will not be in school, this can be done via the Arbor app, by emailing the attendance email address: attendance@vigo.hants.sch.uk or by calling the school and selecting option 1.

More about attendance at Vigo >>

Lateness

We have recently noticed a significant rise in lateness.

Please ensure your child is at school at 8:35am ready for the school day.

You may be invited into school for a meeting with our Attendance Support Worker if lateness is persistent.

Unfortunately, due to updated government guidelines, non-attendance of this meeting could result in a penalty notice or referral to the Legal Intervention Team.

                                                                                                   Date:  16 September 2025

Dear Parents, Teachers and Friends of Vigo Primary School,

Annual General Meeting (AGM) : Thursday 9 October 2025

We would like to give notice of the AGM of the Friends of Vigo Primary (FoVP), to be held on Thursday 9 October 2025. The meeting will start at 3.30pm after school pick up and will be held at the school.

The FoVP plays a vital part in the school community and all parents, teachers and wider family of current pupils, as members of the FoVP, are invited to support the AGM. This is your chance to hear about how the funds you have helped to raise will be used for the benefit of the children/students at our school, and to have a say in what events we are planning for the coming year.

The AGM is also an opportunity for you to elect the FoVP Committee who will represent the association throughout the forthcoming year. Nominations should be sent in advance of the AGM for anyone wishing to stand as an Officer or Ordinary Committee Member, for the first time. Existing committee members wishing to stand for re-election do not have to be nominated again but should inform the Committee of their intention to stay in their role.

If you would like any further information about being a Committee Member, please speak to any of the current committee (details at the bottom of the page). As the FoVP is a registered charity, all committee members automatically become Trustees of the Charity. Before submitting your nomination form, please read the Charity Commission publication ‘The Essential Trustee – What you need to know (CC3)’. A copy of the booklet can be found on the Charity Commission website. We can assist in getting an electronic copy of this to you if required.

We look forward to seeing you on Thursday 9 October 2025. If there are any questions, please email vigopta@gmail.com.

Kind Regards,

Lorraine Ford                              Vera Ralph                                      Sam Cross

Chair, FoVP                                  Secretary, FoVP                             Treasurer, FOVP

Parking

Can we remind all Parents and Carers not to park on the grass verges or by dipped curbs on Vigo Road. Parking here blocks pathways used by wheelchair users and parents with pushchairs, and obstructs lines of sight causing further safety issues.

We have had complaints from residents of Vigo road that they have been unable to leave their homes to take their own children to school, or go to work, because cars have been parked blocking their driveways.

Please be aware that parking enforcement officers have been requested. Parking on footpaths, across dipped kerbs or on yellow lines can result in a penalty charge notice being issued.

Last week, last year's junior governors went on a very special trip to London to visit the Houses of Parliament. They were able to learn about the important role of Democracy in society and how MPs discuss and debate matters which affect us all on a daily basis. This was important learning to enable them to understand how impactful their roles as Junior Governors can be within our school community.
