Newsletter Number 4   -   3 October 2025

Message From Mrs Dance

Dear parents and carers,

I hope that the newsletter for this week finds you all well.

On Friday, the Y6 team announced the results of the Year 6 Head Girl and Head Boy vote. I am looking forward to working with them this year, I am sure that they are going to be fantastic ambassadors and leaders for our school. I would also like to congratulate all of the children who put their names forward for these roles. Standing up in front of your peers and presenting your reasons to be voted for can be a daunting experience. All of Y6 have exemplified the values of resilience, independence and motivation, well done to you all.

In the spirit of democracy, we held our annual Junior Governor voting day yesterday. It was a fantastic day, where each class was invited to visit the school halls and, using authentic polling station booths, vote for one of the three class candidates who had canvassed to be elected to the Junior Governors for this academic year. Again, a great opportunity for our children to exemplify our MIRROR values. I am looking forward to working with the elected representatives this year as we work together to make our school the very best that it can be. Our new Junior Governors will be announced next week and then shared with the wider school community.

Congratulations to Tiana. Tiana joined Andover Swimming Club 14 months ago. She trains 5 hours a week across 3 swimming sessions and 1 water polo session. She recently took part in the 100m Club Championships, competing against the other female swimmers in her age group. She was able to enter three U10 events and medalled in all 3, taking gold in the backstroke, gold in the Individual Medley (butterfly, backstroke, breaststroke, freestyle) and a very close silver medal in breaststroke.  What a fantastic example of our MIRROR values in action. Way to go Tiana!

Wishing you all a lovely weekend.

Yours faithfully

Mrs Dance

Attendance this week

Please think carefully before keeping your child away from school.

As parents and carers, you have a responsibility to inform the school before 9.00am every day if your child will not be in school, this can be done via the Arbor app, by emailing the attendance email address: attendance@vigo.hants.sch.uk or by calling the school and selecting option 1.

More about attendance at Vigo >>

Lateness

We have recently noticed a significant rise in lateness.

Please ensure your child is at school at 8:35am ready for the school day.

You may be invited into school for a meeting with our Attendance Support Worker if lateness is persistent.

Unfortunately, due to updated government guidelines, non-attendance of this meeting could result in a penalty notice or referral to the Legal Intervention Team.

Registered Charity No. 1193376

                                                                                                   Date:  16 September 2025

Dear Parents, Teachers and Friends of Vigo Primary School,

Annual General Meeting (AGM) : Thursday 9 October 2025

We would like to give notice of the AGM of the Friends of Vigo Primary (FoVP), to be held on Thursday 9 October 2025. The meeting will start at 3.30pm after school pick up and will be held at the school.

The FoVP plays a vital part in the school community and all parents, teachers and wider family of current pupils, as members of the FoVP, are invited to support the AGM. This is your chance to hear about how the funds you have helped to raise will be used for the benefit of the children/students at our school, and to have a say in what events we are planning for the coming year.

The AGM is also an opportunity for you to elect the FoVP Committee who will represent the association throughout the forthcoming year. Nominations should be sent in advance of the AGM for anyone wishing to stand as an Officer or Ordinary Committee Member, for the first time. Existing committee members wishing to stand for re-election do not have to be nominated again but should inform the Committee of their intention to stay in their role.

If you would like any further information about being a Committee Member, please speak to any of the current committee (details at the bottom of the page). As the FoVP is a registered charity, all committee members automatically become Trustees of the Charity. Before submitting your nomination form, please read the Charity Commission publication ‘The Essential Trustee – What you need to know (CC3)’. A copy of the booklet can be found on the Charity Commission website. We can assist in getting an electronic copy of this to you if required.

We look forward to seeing you on Thursday 9 October 2025. If there are any questions, please email vigopta@gmail.com.

Kind Regards,

Lorraine Ford                              Vera Ralph                                      Sam Cross

Parking

Can we remind all Parents and Carers not to park on the grass verges or by dipped curbs on Vigo Road. Parking here blocks pathways used by wheelchair users and parents with pushchairs, and obstructs lines of sight causing further safety issues.

We have had complaints from residents of Vigo road that they have been unable to leave their homes to take their own children to school, or go to work, because cars have been parked blocking their driveways.

Please be aware that parking enforcement officers have been requested. Parking on footpaths, across dipped kerbs or on yellow lines can result in a penalty charge notice being issued.

PE Achievements Some fantastic news regarding Tiana, a current Year 4 pupil... "After completing swimming lessons, Tiana joined Andover Swimming Club 14 months ago. She trains 5 hours a week across 3 swimming sessions and 1 water polo session. She recently took part in the 100m Club Championships competing against the other female swimmers in her age group. She was able to enter three U10 events and medalled in all 3, taking gold in the backstroke, gold in the Individual Medley (butterfly, backstroke, breaststroke, freestyle) and a very close silver medal in breaststroke." Tiana we love the motivation you have shown to compete in your sport. And the huge resilience it takes from you (and your parents!) to dedicate so much time to your training. Keep up the fantastic work
