Message From Mrs Dance

Dear parents and carers,

I hope that you have all had a great week. Unbelievably, we are nearing the end of the first half term and what a great start to this academic year it has been. A gentle reminder that next week the children’s last day will be Thursday as we have the second of our five INSET days on  Friday 24th October.

This week, Year 4 have had the amazing experience of visiting the 878AD museum in Winchester. This enrichment opportunity has enhanced the children’s knowledge and understanding for their current and ongoing historical enquiry. The children had an amazing time and exemplified our MIRROR values brilliantly.  To find out more about the trip click on this link: Home | 878 AD - Step into Anglo-Saxon Winchester

On Monday, I received an email from Andover Trees United:

“On behalf of everybody at Andover Trees United, I am writing to let you know how impressed we were with George, one of your pupils who brought his dad along to help plant wildflowers in the wood on Saturday. As a community, we have been growing this year's wildflowers at our Vigo Road allotment since April and were delighted to involve pupils from your school in this process. George is one of the pupils who came to the allotment with his class last term.” Well done George and his dad!

As part of our support for Andover Trees United, we are going to be returning to Bury Hill woods in November to continue the project of planting trees in our community.

Thank you to our brilliant Friends of Vigo team (FoVP). This morning I arrived at school to find a cheque for £1,500.00. This is as a result of all of the fundraising by the team last year. It is a FANTASTIC amount and will be used to purchase equipment to enhance our children’s lunchtime play experience. Mr Dockree was delighted to hear that he had this amount to spend and will be liaising with the Junior Governors to spend it! Thank you to you all for your support of the FoVP- your generosity supports the enrichment and learning opportunities for all of the children.

Wishing you all a wonderful weekend.

Yours faithfully

Mrs Dance

Attendance this week

Please think carefully before keeping your child away from school.

As parents and carers, you have a responsibility to inform the school before 9.00am every day if your child will not be in school, this can be done via the Arbor app, by emailing the attendance email address: attendance@vigo.hants.sch.uk or by calling the school and selecting option 1.

More about attendance at Vigo >>

Lateness

We have recently noticed a significant rise in lateness.

Please ensure your child is at school at 8:35am ready for the school day.

You may be invited into school for a meeting with our Attendance Support Worker if lateness is persistent.

Unfortunately, due to updated government guidelines, non-attendance of this meeting could result in a penalty notice or referral to the Legal Intervention Team.

Earings On PE Days

Please can all Parents and Carers take extra care to remember children must not wear hoop earings on PE days.

This is a health and safety issue. Staff are not able to remove earings for Children, this could result in them having to sit out of PE lessons.

Parking

Can we remind all Parents and Carers not to park on the grass verges or by dipped curbs on Vigo Road. Parking here blocks pathways used by wheelchair users and parents with pushchairs, and obstructs lines of sight causing further safety issues.

We have had complaints from residents of Vigo road that they have been unable to leave their homes to take their own children to school, or go to work, because cars have been parked blocking their driveways.

Please be aware that parking enforcement officers have been requested. Parking on footpaths, across dipped kerbs or on yellow lines can result in a penalty charge notice being issued.

Our vision is to provide zones which empower the children to make positive play choices from a wide variety of engaging resources.Whilst we have been busy ordering equipment and resources in preparation for the first phase launch after half term, we also need your help! We wanted to reach out to the incredible Vigo Community to request any donations of unwanted or unused toys/resources which fit into any of the categories in the attached picture! If you, or anyone you know, can spare any of the attached resources, it would make the world of difference to what we can provide for our children during such an important part of their day. Please bring any donations to the school office from this Friday 17th October until Thursday 23rd October
