Message From Mrs Dance

Dear parents and carers,

Welcome back to school. I trust that you all had a lovely half term week.

Over half term, a number of building initiatives took place in and around the school site. The second phase of the school car park was completed. Creating more spaces, safer bin storage and a new bike park. Please encourage your children to use this bike park or the existing blue scooter park, as it ensures a clear pathway to school and keeps the equipment safe. The Hampshire Safer Roads team have also added street furniture to the Vigo Road, this is part of the travel plan for our school and the other schools on the Vigo quadrant. I will continue to work with all stakeholders to ensure that we continue to make the start and end of the day at school a safe one.

The children have returned to school with a strong “spark to start”! It has been great to see all the fantastic value’s posters created by the children adorning Mr Dockree’s office walls. This term we will be choosing our value posters and working to create digital images which will be displayed in every classroom and across the school. We will share these with you all soon.

I have had the fantastic privilege of spending the first 3 days with Y6 on their Calshot residential, I LOVED it! I got to spend lots of time with the children, getting to know them even more and joining in with the activities.  The ringos are my favourite!  I enjoyed running up the dry ski slope with my ringo alongside the children and shooting down to the bottom!

The children have been exemplary in their behaviour, epitomising our MIRROR values throughout the week. Thank you to the staff team who have facilitated this amazing enrichment experience for the children. Without them volunteering their time, the residential would not be possible.

Finally, the second Parent Forum of this year is taking place on Monday 10th November. If you would like to share anything with the group, please speak to a Parent forum Rep. Their details can be found on the school website by clicking on this link: Vigo Primary School - Parent Forum

Wishing you all a lovely weekend.

Attendance this week

Please think carefully before keeping your child away from school.

As parents and carers, you have a responsibility to inform the school before 9.00am every day if your child will not be in school, this can be done via the Arbor app, by emailing the attendance email address: attendance@vigo.hants.sch.uk or by calling the school and selecting option 1.

More about attendance at Vigo >>

Lateness

We have recently noticed a significant rise in lateness.

Please ensure your child is at school at 8:35am ready for the school day.

You may be invited into school for a meeting with our Attendance Support Worker if lateness is persistent.

Unfortunately, due to updated government guidelines, non-attendance of this meeting could result in a penalty notice or referral to the Legal Intervention Team.

Sign of the week

There are two signs for this week

This is the sign for bonfire

This is the sign for firework

ask your child to sign them with you

Quote of the Week

Earings On PE Days

Please can all Parents and Carers take extra care to remember children must not wear hoop earings on PE days.

This is a health and safety issue. Staff are not able to remove earings for Children, this could result in them having to sit out of PE lessons.

Parking

Can we remind all Parents and Carers not to park on the grass verges or by dipped curbs on Vigo Road. Parking here blocks pathways used by wheelchair users and parents with pushchairs, and obstructs lines of sight causing further safety issues.

We have had complaints from residents of Vigo road that they have been unable to leave their homes to take their own children to school, or go to work, because cars have been parked blocking their driveways.

Please be aware that parking enforcement officers have been requested. Parking on footpaths, across dipped kerbs or on yellow lines can result in a penalty charge notice being issued.
