Newsletter Number 9   -   21 November 2025

Message From Mrs Dance

Dear parents and carers,

What a cold week it has been, winter is definitely upon us!

This week, my assemblies have been themed around Anti-Bullying. Whilst anti-bullying week was the week of the 10th November, our school philosophy is that anti-bullying should be all year round. The theme for this year’s week was ‘The Power for Good’. I shared the different types of power that we can use and focused on the power of kindness and standing up for each other. Please click on the link below to access some resources to support you at home:

FREE Anti-Bullying Week 2025 Packs Are Now Available!

Last Friday, Year 2, along with Mr Hodgson went to Bury Hill to plant trees. It was a fabulous afternoon that the children thoroughly enjoyed; they arrived back at school beaming! The organisers of the event (Andover Trees United) complimented the children on their exemplary behaviour and politeness. Well done Year 2 and thank you!

A big thank you to Katie in Australia Class and her Mum, who have donated 10-20 netballs to the school. This will support our PE curriculum and enhance the resources that the children have access to.

Following this week’s parents' consultations, I would like to thank all of you who attended. Following a change in the format, all meetings were held in classrooms, which gave parents time to look at their child’s books and meet with their child’s class teacher in a quiet and supportive environment. Following analysis of the surveys handed back to us, this was a unanimous success! Thank you for the positive comments as well, they are very much appreciated! This will be the format moving forward.

Finally, I look forward to seeing all of you who have generously given up your time tomorrow morning to support our Helping Hands EYFS development project. I will ensure there are lots of hot drinks and biscuits!

Wishing you all a great weekend

Mrs Dance

On-Line Safety Concern

We have been made aware of a pop-up that is appearing on Roblox, encouraging children to download an app called pollybuzz (or pollyfuzz in some spelling cases). The app seems quite simple where children are asked questions, and it generates an Artificial Intelligence ‘friend’ – this starts off quite innocently but then begins to show extreme content (including suicide, self-harm and pornography). Roblox has parental controls; instructions of how to put these on can be accessed via this link:

Parental Controls Overview – Roblox Support .

A gentle reminder that parental controls will stop some pop-ups, but not all, so appropriate supervision is still required.

At school we will be reminding the children about not clicking on pop-ups and speaking to a trusted adult if they are worried or concerned about anything.

Attendance this week

Please think carefully before keeping your child away from school.

As parents and carers, you have a responsibility to inform the school before 9.00am every day if your child will not be in school, this can be done via the Arbor app, by emailing the attendance email address: attendance@vigo.hants.sch.uk or by calling the school and selecting option 1.

More about attendance at Vigo >>

Lateness

Please ensure your child is at school at 8:35am ready for the school day.

You may be invited into school for a meeting with our Attendance Support Worker if lateness is persistent.

Unfortunately, due to updated government guidelines, non-attendance of this meeting could result in a penalty notice or referral to the Legal Intervention Team.

St. Nicholas’ Day. 6th December 2025

Do you and your family celebrate St. Nicholas’ Day?

Would you like to come into school and share what your children do on this day? We are looking for parents and grandparents to visit the children in their classes to tell them the story and traditions of celebrating St. Nicholas’ Day. This would be during the morning of Friday 6th December 2025.

If you are available and would like to share your cultural traditions, please contact Mrs Neale (EAL Manager) through the school office.

Our Head girl Lily features on this article for Hampshire County council! Councillor Kirsty North caught up with Lily, Harley, Cameron and Krisztian, our Deputy and Head boys and girls during their recent trip to Calshot. Councillor North sent a very complimentary email to the school stating "I wanted to share a thank you note to Mrs Dance but mainly to Cameron, Lily, Krisztian and Harley from the Yr6 residential trip at Calshot this week. I was visiting the Activities Centre to take part in some activities and film for a social media clip on behalf of Hampshire County Council and the pupils were an absolute credit to your school. They were confident, engaging, honest and friendly as they talked to me about their stay this week. It was brilliant to watch all the pupils getting stuck into archery, skiing, cycling and climbing and hearing about some of the challenges a residential stay brings - getting some sleep, for example! I was really proud to meet them all. As the local county councillor, it would be great to get some time in the diary to come to the school for a visit and hopefully see some friendly faces."
