Message From Mrs Dance

Dear parents and carers,

We have arrived at the end of the autumn term. It has been a wonderful term, culminating in a Vigo festive lead up to the Christmas holiday.

The children have been amazing, working hard throughout the term and joining in with the fabulous festive end to the term.  We have had many successes and been able to celebrate some fantastic achievements; sporting, academic and creative.

Alongside the Christmas assemblies and choir performances, parents and I were privileged to watch our five rock bands perform their latest set. Thanks to the iRock crew and their teacher Jarred, a group of children from across the school performed. Not only have they learnt how to play an instrument,  but they also remembered the lyrics, played together as a band and sang in tune, A-MA-ZING! I am really looking forward to their next set in the spring term!

This term, we have begun a Ground Force team initiative to support the rejuvenation of our outdoor site, we are really looking forward to continuing this in 2026. Hopefully, we will receive some volunteers from local companies alongside our wonderful parent and school team. If you do know of any companies who would be willing to support us in this initiative, please do contact the office team.

None of the above would have been possible without your support. A child’s education thrives when home and school work together, thank you for all that you do to support your child and the team here at school.

Thank you to the entire Vigo team for all of their hard work this autumn term. Once again they have worked tirelessly for the children, families and the local community.

This term we have said farewell to some fabulous Learning Support Assistants; Mrs. Hewkin, Mrs Cogan and today we say goodbye to Mr McMahon, I would like to take this opportunity to thank them for all that they have done to support our children, team and families, and we wish them all the best in their future endeavours.

I look forward to working with you all again on Tuesday the 6th January (a gentle reminder that Monday 5th January is an INSET day) when we welcome you and your children back to school.

Wishing you all a wonderful Christmas and a happy and peaceful New Year.

Mrs Dance

Attendance this week

Please think carefully before keeping your child away from school.

As parents and carers, you have a responsibility to inform the school before 9.00am every day if your child will not be in school, this can be done via the Arbor app, by emailing the attendance email address: attendance@vigo.hants.sch.uk or by calling the school and selecting option 1.

More about attendance at Vigo >>

Lateness

Please ensure your child is at school at 8:35am ready for the school day.

You may be invited into school for a meeting with our Attendance Support Worker if lateness is persistent.

Unfortunately, due to updated government guidelines, non-attendance of this meeting could result in a penalty notice or referral to the Legal Intervention Team.

Head Lice

We have been made aware of head lice in school. It is recommended that all parents across the whole school check their child’s hair at least weekly.

We would ask ALL parents to check hair and treat as necessary. It’s frustrating when parents clear their child’s hair only for them to catch them again.

The NHS advice is that lice and nits can be removed by wet combing. You can buy a special fine-toothed comb (detection comb) online or from pharmacies to remove head lice and nits. There may be instructions on the pack, but usually you:

  • Wash hair with ordinary shampoo, apply lots of conditioner (any conditioner will do).
  • Comb the whole head of hair, from the roots to the ends.
  • Wet comb on days 1, 5, 9 and 13 to catch any newly hatched head lice. Check again that everyone's hair is free of lice on day 17.
