Message From Mrs Dance

Dear parents and carers,

Welcome to the start of the spring term 2026. I hope that you had a lovely Christmas and the start to 2026 has been a positive one.

It was lovely to welcome all of the children back to school on Tuesday. The children have come back to school brilliantly engaging with all of the amazing learning opportunities on offer. As well as a WWII immersion day on Tuesday, Y6 visited Milestone’s museum on Wednesday in support of their history curriculum. It was wonderful to see so many Romans walking into Year 3 on Wednesday for their history immersion into Ancient Roman life.

On Thursday Mr. Kew and I carried out a Learning and Ethos walk across the school. It was wonderful to see the excellent learning behaviours evident from EYFS to Year 6 from all of the children. The children are walking around the school building when transitioning at different parts of the school day sensibly and respectfully. The whole school is a calm and purposeful environment- ensuring that the children are in the best position to learn and make progress. Needless to say, this does not happen by accident. Thank you to the amazing Vigo staff and children for working as a team; enabling everyone to thrive and succeed.

Today, Mr. Dockree has led a values assembly with the focus on our shield award this term. The value focus is Responsibility and the children have been asked to nominate a peer in their class who is an exemplar of responsibility, showing that everyone "can count on me." Last term, the governors and I were delighted to award Lily E in Year 1 with the Respect shield. We cannot wait to award the Responsibility shield to the next recipient.

Year 3, 4 and 5 were given the fantastic opportunity to participate in a live music experience this morning. The Hampshire Music team came in and performed for the children. The ensemble was made up of strings, keyboards and brass instruments. There may be some budding musicians that have been inspired by this enrichment activity.

Finally, it is our last Open Morning tomorrow (Saturday 10th). Our fabulous EYFS and PPA team will be joining me to showcase our school to potential new parents. The Forest school fire will be lit to make smores, Miss Marta will be creating some amazing artwork and Mr. Holmes will be leading a sporting activity, as well as the EYFS team and myself being on hand to answer any questions. If you know of any potential families looking for a school place, please do extend a warm invitation to them to come along if they haven't already signed up. It is great to see so make people who are already joining us for the event.

I am looking forward to working with you all again in 2026 to ensure that our school continues to grow from strength to strength. Please do not hesitate to contact me via the school office if I can be of any support or assistance.

Wishing you all a lovely weekend.

Attendance this week

Please think carefully before keeping your child away from school.

As parents and carers, you have a responsibility to inform the school before 9.00am every day if your child will not be in school, this can be done via the Arbor app, by emailing the attendance email address: attendance@vigo.hants.sch.uk or by calling the school and selecting option 1.

Lateness

Please ensure your child is at school at 8:35am ready for the school day.

You may be invited into school for a meeting with our Attendance Support Worker if lateness is persistent.

Unfortunately, due to updated government guidelines, non-attendance of this meeting could result in a penalty notice or referral to the Legal Intervention Team.

Quote of the Week

“Kindness is the only service that will stand the storm of life and not wash out.

It will wear well and will be remembered long after the prism of politeness or the complexion of courtesy has faded away.”

School Lunch – Important Reminder

All school meals that are ordered must be paid for. This means that if you order your child a meal, and they are then not at school due to an appointment or illness, you will still be charged for the meal they did not eat.

This also applies to free school meals, though these are paid for by school.

In order to reduce these unnecessary costs as much as possible, we do our best to cancel any meals ordered for children who have not arrived in school.

If your child will be arriving in school late for any reason, and you do not want their lunch cancelled, it is very important you let school know. If we have the details that your child will arrive before lunch, we will not cancel their meal. Any meal ordered for a child who is not registered in the morning where no reason is given, will be cancelled.

Happy New Year Vigo Community In typical Vigo style, the new year and new term has already started full of exciting learning opportunities for the children. Today, our Year 3 pupils arrived to schools dressed as Romans ready to begin their History investigation into "How did the Romans change Britain?" This immersive day has kick started their learning and the children are now full of curious questions which will be answered throughout the half term. Our Year 6 pupils also attended Milestones Museum in Basingstoke today to go back in time to the 1940s and experience what the streets would have felt like during this challenging time. The children have begun their investigation into "How did World War II impact people in Britain?" Today was a fantastic opportunity to begin to understand how the War in Europe impacted everybody back home. Please enjoy the photos provided by the year 6 team. As you can see by the photos, it is safe to say the "confectionary rations" each child was able to collect with their ration book will not last the allocated week they were supposed to!
