Newsletter Number 17   -   30 January 2026

Message From Mrs Dance

I hope that this newsletter finds you all well.

This week in my assemblies I have been talking to the children around the concept of belonging and what it means to us as a school. This was linked to Holocaust Memorial Day, which is held on 27th January each year. The ending of our assembly was agreeing the collective view that: we are all different, but we should all be respectful to one another.

This year we have established a Belonging Council made up of Year 5 and 6 children who meet regularly with Mrs Matthews to ensure that the pupil voice is an integral part of our school. “The children have been chosen because they care. Their ideas matter. Their voices matter and together, we can help make our school a place where everyone truly belongs.”

Our Belonging Council representatives for this academic year are: Melanie, Miles, Parker, Trinity, Nichole, Jayme, Sofiia, Jimmy, Sanaya, Lucas, Elsie and Robin. I look forward to sharing with all of you, their work and ideas as we journey through the spring and summer terms.

In 2025, following a consultation period, the OFSTED framework and ways of reporting were changed. To find out more about the changes that have taken place to the framework and gain a better understanding of the new report card, please click on the following link: Understanding Ofsted report cards and grades - GOV.UK. This link can also be found on our school website on the OFSTED page. Vigo Primary School - Ofsted Report

I am delighted to announce, that we are now a Simon Says Champion School!

Following training for all staff, policy writing, fundraising and collegiate working, we have achieved the award. Thanks you to Mrs Matthews who has been the driving force and lead for all of the fantastic work that has culminated in this whole school achievement. We received the following feedback from Simon Says:

“Thank you for all your hard work, your passion, enthusiasm and warmth in leading and developing the Champion Programme at Vigo Primary. You are a shining example of what exemplary support looks like for young people when they are walking the hardest of paths.

We are very proud and delighted to announce Vigo Primary as a Simon Says Champion School

HUGE congratulations!!”

Wishing you all a restful weekend.
