Message From Mrs Dance

I hope that you have all had a lovely week. It has been another busy week of learning and achievement here at school.

Following our whole school homework initiative in the autumn term as part of our MIRROR values refresh, I am delighted to be able to share with you all our new MIRROR values posters. They have been generated using the children’s designs. Miss Blake has used her artistic talents to reimage the ideas into our new posters below. They are all now displayed in each classroom for the children to see and use.

On Tuesday, it was Safer Internet Day. The theme was: Smart tech, safe choices – Exploring the safe and responsible use of AI. My Head teacher assemblies this week explained to the children what AI is, and how it should be used responsibly and safely. The children in KS2 had the opportunity to join live assemblies led by BBC Bitesize on Tuesday which added more information and support to the children to increase their online safety knowledge and skills. If you would like to watch the live assembly with your child, please click on the following link Safer Internet Day 2026 – Live Lesson - BBC Teach

Following this half term’s Parent Forum, the minutes and highlights documents can be accessed by clicking on the following link: Vigo Primary School - Parent Forum  The next meeting will be held on Monday 9th March where we will be exploring curriculum videos made by school to inform you, the parents. We will also open the Google Doc for you to share any suggestions with us when we return after half term.

Congratulations to Molly in Year 4! Molly is on fire as goalkeeper for her team, receiving the opposition player of the match in a recent semi-final. For the second year in a row now, her football team New Street Swift Vixen, are through to the final of the Hampshire Girls Youth Football League cup (HGYFL). Having won the cup last year, they are hoping to retain this title again next month. We at Vigo, wish Molly and her team mates the best of luck in the final!

Well done to our boys football team who played at home against Knights Enham Juniors this week. Although we lost at the final whistle, the boys once again played a valiant game filled with grit, determination and resilience. Well done to all of the team and to Mr Burdock- a fantastic example of our MIRROR values and team Vigo! Also a huge congratulations to our cross-country team, who competed in the XC County Qualifiers this week. Logan in year 5 and Ivy in year 6 have reached the finals on 3rd March and Tiana in Year 4 won the Year 3/4 race beating all other competitors from schools across Andover. An AMAZING achievement by everyone who took part!

Even though school will be closed next week, the site will be filled with the voices of children as Mr Holmes, Miss Marta and Mr Hodgson lead the half term holiday clubs of sport, art and Forest school.

Wishing you all a lovely weekend and half term next week. We look forward to welcoming the children and you back to school on Monday 23rd February.

History Learning Nothing like ending your learning journey by finding some fossils! Our Year 1 pupils celebrated the end of their learning Journey, which focused on the achievements of Mary Anning, by going on their own fossil hunt. The children had to work collaboratively as a group to find the various sections of the fossil before putting it together. So lovely to see so many of our youngest pupils so motivated to learn
