Message From Mrs Dance
Welcome back to spring 2! I hope that you all enjoyed a lovely half term week.
I was delighted to return form half term to write my first 1000 Dojo postcard of this academic year. Congratulations to Lottie in year 2 for achieving this magnificent 1000 Dojos total! Thank you for helping to make our school a happy, welcoming place to learn.
This week my Head teacher assemblies focused around the Place 2 Be Children’s Mental Health week theme of ‘This is My Place’. Whilst Children’s Mental Health Week was recognised nationally from 9-15th February, here at Vigo we recognise and support our children’s mental health all year round. My assemblies promoted belonging and wellbeing ideas for us all. I challenged the children to carry out an action each day that made someone in the school feel welcome and that they belong. The challenges were:
- Say hello to one person you don’t usually talk to.
- Share a toy, crayon, or turn in a game.
- Invite someone to join your group.
I have seen lots of children, throughout the week, carrying out the challenge that they picked.
As you may already be aware, the Government has now published its new Special Educational Needs (SEN) and schools White Paper, Every Child Achieving and Thriving. We received access to the document at the same time as parents and the wider public. The proposals set out in Every Child Achieving and Thriving form part of a national consultation process, which means that changes are still possible before any new guidance becomes final. We encourage all parents and carers who wish to share their views to take part in the government consultation. To support you in understanding the proposals, the Department for Education has published parent-friendly versions of the White Paper, which can be accessed by clicking on the following links:

Next week, you will receive the link to book your parental consultation slot for the spring term. Following extremely positive feedback from parents regarding last terms change to the location of the meetings (held in classrooms with an opportunity to look at your child’s books before the meeting) this change will remain. We will also no longer be offering virtual meeting slots; these were not popular and fewer parents selected this option. Therefore, both consultation evenings will be face-to-face. We hope that this additional change will be another positive change to our home school partnership.
Wishing you all a lovely weekend.
