Message From Mrs Dance

I cannot believe we are ending the fourth week of the summer term already.

Today is Sir David Attenborough’s 100th birthday. We have celebrated his birthday across the school, celebrating his amazing support of our planet and wildlife through sessions and activities in class, and in true Vigo fashion, some members of staff dressed up as animals from around the world to add to the celebration.

Next week, our fantastic Year 6 children are completing their end of year SAT tests. They have been working incredibly hard, and I know that they will smash the tests. Myself and the Y6 team are very proud of them all and wish them the best of luck.

Last Saturday, 2nd May, Cyryl and Otis took part in a HBT fun run happening alongside the Hurstbourne Tarrant 5 mile race. Both of those races are run to raise money for local charities, with Andover food bank and Andover Young Carers being two of them. The children’s race has a challenging course with 2.2km distance. Both boys competed against runners of various capabilities and ages, with the oldest being 14 years old. Cyryl finished in 70th position, Otis in 111th, which gave them 9th and 13th position in their age group. They have both been rewarded with a race T-shirt and a medal. Congratulations boys, an AMAZING achievement!

Our enrichment experiences are full steam ahead. On Friday of last week, Year 2 had an amazing day at the Titanic Museum in Southampton and on Wednesday of this week, Year 5 deepened their evolution knowledge at the Oxford University museum. On both trips, the children came back buzzing and excited to share what they had learnt. They all behaved brilliantly, exemplifying our MIRROR values and High Five Promise, fantastic ambassadors for our school. Thank you to the children and staff teams in both Year 2 and Year 5.

As part of our home school curriculum support, I am delighted to share another curriculum video with you all. Thanks to Mrs Martin, who has made a Phonics curriculum video. We received really positive feedback via our Parent Forum about the KS1 maths curriculum video that I shared at the end of last term. We hope that this next video supports your child’s learning at home. Next half-term’s video will be KS2 Addition and subtraction strategies. Wishing you all a lovely, sunny weekend.

Walk to School Week

Walk to school week 2026 is from Monday 18th May – Friday 22nd May, encouraging children to walk, wheel, cycle, or scoot to school while promoting health, safety, and environmental awareness.

Aligning with National walking month, walk to school week supports children's daily activity levels as well as encourages parents to spend quality time with their children on the walk to and from school, developing conversation and language skills to all our children.

Our Junior Road Safety Officers will be sharing resources with all pupils ahead of this week, to remind children of being safe near the roads. They have also come up with some activities to make walks more active and to promote conversation whilst walking.

Attendance this week

Please think carefully before keeping your child away from school.

As parents and carers, you have a responsibility to inform the school before 9.00am every day if your child will not be in school, this can be done via the Arbor app, by emailing the attendance email address: attendance@vigo.hants.sch.uk or by calling the school and selecting option 1.

More about attendance at Vigo >>

Lateness

Please ensure your child is at school at 8:35am ready for the school day.

You may be invited into school for a meeting with our Attendance Support Worker if lateness is persistent.

Unfortunately, due to updated government guidelines, non-attendance of this meeting could result in a penalty notice or referral to the Legal Intervention Team.
