Message From Mrs Dance

Dear parents and carers,

I hope that this week’s newsletter finds you well.

This week, Mr Dockree and I spent Tuesday morning in all classes across the school. It was a fantastic morning where we observed excellent learning behaviours from the children and really inspiring and engaging lessons being taught. The children’s enthusiasm for learning was palpable, and it was wonderful to speak to the children, enabling them to explain their learning to us.

 

 

If you fancy a trip to Thruxton race circuit this July, we have joined again this year with the Thruxton Circuit support scheme. If you choose to buy tickets for Thruxton Retro: Back to the 80s (3-5 July). Enter the code TRVPS26 at checkout and our school will receive 20% net commission from your ticket purchase.

 

 

We are aware that before school starts, on the KS2 playground, children are bringing their own footballs on site and playing games with them, which has caused some injuries to other playground users. Until the doors open at 08:35am, the children are still under parental supervision and therefore it is your responsibility to ensure the balls are not played with. We have informed the children that ball games are not permitted before the start of the school day and will ensure that staff supervision of the playground from 08:35am supports a safe site. If a member of staff observes a child with a ball, it will be taken for the day and given back at the end of the school day. We appreciate your support in reminding your children about ball games before school.

Parent Forum Minutes

We held our final parent forum meeting for this academic year on Monday 8th June. We are looking forward to opening up a school-wide invitation for more parent representatives in September.  Please click here to access the minutes and highlights document.

Attendance this week

Please think carefully before keeping your child away from school. 

As parents and carers, you have a responsibility to inform the school before 9.00am every day if your child will not be in school; this can be done via the Arbor app, by emailing the attendance email address: attendance@vigo.hants.sch.uk or by calling the school and selecting option 1.

Lateness

Please ensure your child is at school at 8:35am ready for the school day.

You may be invited into school for a meeting with our Attendance Support Worker if lateness is persistent.

Unfortunately, due to updated government guidelines, non-attendance of this meeting could result in a penalty notice or referral to the Legal Intervention Team.

 

NUTS!

We currently have several children with nut allergies in school, so it is important that children DO NOT bring any food items into school which may contain nuts.

Could all parents and carers please ensure that NO NUTS are sent to school in packed lunches. This includes chocolate spread sandwiches, and cereal bars. We appreciate that not all chocolate spread contains nuts, however the vast majority do. It is not possible for our staff to tell the difference between types of chocolate spread once they are put into a sandwich, so in order to protect our children we have to ask that no chocolate spread is sent into school at all.

Any items containing nuts or chocolate spread will be removed from the child’s lunch and returned to you at the end of the day. If this is a sandwich, an alternative will be provided, such as bread and butter or toast.

Earrings

In the UK, the Association for Physical Education (afPE) and the British Association of Advisers and Lecturers in Physical Education advise removing all earrings for sports.

Taping over earrings is no longer recommended as this does not adequately control the risk and may give a false sense of security.

Within Vigo, if children are unable to remove their earrings themselves, they may be given non-physical roles.

Everybody at Vigo Primary School would like to send our best wishes to Tommy Gentleman and Andover RFC for their special event tomorrow. Tommy is completing a 156 kick challenge to raise awareness for Cardiac Risk in the Young - an amazing charity who work towards preventing young sudden cardiac deaths through awareness, screening and research, and supporting affected families. Our Year 5 pupil, Freya - along with her friends - have given up some of their free time to create a poster to cheer Tommy on and to show their support!

Vigo Primary School
Year 4 Hampton Court Trip Earlier this term, our Year 4 pupils journeyed to Hampton Court Palace as part of their History learning journey. The children were being historians answering their key question: "Henry VIII - Power or Pain?" Visiting Hampton Court allowed the children to experience one of the king's key locations and were able to look for historical evidence to support their arguments.
