Newsletter Number 34   -   3 July 2026

Message From Mrs Dance

Dear parents and carers,

I hope that this week’s newsletter finds you all well. It has certainly been a cooler week!

I am delighted to share that I received an email from a member of our community sharing with me that three year 4 students were litter picking at a local park on Wednesday afternoon. Using their own initiative, they were making the park a better place for others. Thank you to Raven, Mary-Jane and Emily for being AMAZING school ambassadors of our MIRROR values; a brilliant example of community spirit!

Yesterday’s sports day was a fantastic event. It was wonderful to see so many parents and carers at school. The children exemplified our team spirit throughout the day, and it was wonderful to see their smiling faces and listen to their excitable chatter. One child told me, "I love sports day” and another shared, “I wish it was sports day every day!” A BIG shout-out to Mr. Burdock and Mr. Holmes for organising the day. It is no mean feat and, once again, they organised a great day for us all. Thanks also to the Friends of Vigo who kept us all hydrated and fed throughout the day.

Following on from our Art Exhibition in town, I was contacted by the Test Valley Art Society asking if it was possible to exhibit our children’s artwork at the Andover train station. Of course, we said yes! To link in with the Frida Kahlo exhibition at the Tate Modern in London, Miss Marta has taught a unit within our school curriculum exploring the artistic vision of Frida. So, we have lots of Frida Kahlo inspired artwork to exhibit. I will let you all know the dates that the children’s artwork will be showcased, when we have been notified.

Wishing you all a great weekend.

Attendance this week

Please think carefully before keeping your child away from school.

As parents and carers, you have a responsibility to inform the school before 9.00am every day if your child will not be in school; this can be done via the Arbor app, by emailing the attendance email address: attendance@vigo.hants.sch.uk or by calling the school and selecting option 1.

More about attendance at Vigo >>

Lateness

Please ensure your child is at school at 8:35am ready for the school day.

You may be invited into school for a meeting with our Attendance Support Worker if lateness is persistent.

Unfortunately, due to updated government guidelines, non-attendance of this meeting could result in a penalty notice or referral to the Legal Intervention Team.

Earrings

In the UK, the Association for Physical Education (afPE) and the British Association of Advisers and Lecturers in Physical Education advise removing all earrings for sports.

Taping over earrings is no longer recommended as this does not adequately control the risk and may give a false sense of security.

Within Vigo, if children are unable to remove their earrings themselves, they may be given non-physical roles.

Head Lice

We have been made aware of head lice in multiple year groups in school. We would ask ALL parents to check hair and treat as necessary. It is recommended that all parents check their child’s hair at least weekly.

Lice and nits can be removed by wet combing. Wash your child's hair with ordinary shampoo and apply lots of conditioner. Comb the whole head of hair with a fine toothed lice detection comb, from the roots to the ends.

Wet comb on days 1, 5, 9 and 13 to catch any newly hatched head lice. Check again that everyone's hair is free of lice on day 17.

Vigo Primary School
Special Shout out Following an unprecedented week of challenging temperatures, we would like to take this opportunity to thank our incredible staff team who have worked tirelessly this week in extremely challenging conditions to provide a safe and happy space for the children. Mrs Dance and our wonderful Friends Of Vigo Primary School treated the staff team to an ice cream from the ice cream van after school - this was really appreciated by the staff team and was a lovely gesture of grattitude. We'd like to also thank our wonderful parent/carer community who have shown so much kindness, empathy and understanding throughout the week - this does not go unnoticed we understand that this week has required enormous flexibility and we really appreciate the collaborative approach to supporting the children's safety and well-being. And finally...the most important thank you to our incredible children. Their resilience and open mindedness never ceases to amaze us. It's been a week of different classrooms and different timings but as usual the children have taken it all in their stride. REMINDER Tomorrow (Friday 26th June) the school is open as usual. Due to the continuing high temperatures parents/carers have the option for an early collection. Key Stage 1: 1:10pm Key Stage 2: 1:20pm We ask that you complete the GoogleForm which has been sent out earlier today by the office team to make us aware of your intention to collect early.

Vigo Primary School
Everybody at Vigo Primary School would like to send our best wishes to Tommy Gentleman and Andover RFC for their special event tomorrow. Tommy is completing a 156 kick challenge to raise awareness for Cardiac Risk in the Young - an amazing charity who work towards preventing young sudden cardiac deaths through awareness, screening and research, and supporting affected families. Our Year 5 pupil, Freya - along with her friends - have given up some of their free time to create a poster to cheer Tommy on and to show their support!
