Newsletter Number 01   -   11 September 2026

Message From Mrs Dance

Dear parents and carers,

Welcome to our first newsletter for this academic year following a full week in school.

Our Year R children have settled into school life fantastically. I have spent time with them in their classrooms and outside at lunchtime and I am delighted with how they have transitioned into school. We have also welcomed new children and families to Vigo across the year groups, a big welcome to you all.

Meet the Teacher

This year we are going to trial a new start to the academic year, whereby, following the curriculum overviews and newsletters that we sent on Friday of last week, you get the opportunity to meet your child’s teacher in a more informal setting. Communication was emailed out from the Office team. This Meet the Teacher event will be held on Wednesday 16th September between 15:15 and 15:35. The children will be released from the class door in line with usual procedure. Once the classroom is empty, you will be invited back into the classroom.

Tie Assembly

Today I was delighted to hand out purple ties to Year 6. This is a rite of passage for all Vigo Year 6’s and something that the children have been looking forward to since school opened last Tuesday. Congratulations to all of Year 6! We are incredibly proud of you and look forward to seeing the positive impact you will continue to make throughout the year.

Keeping our Children Safe Online

I want to share a concern that has been brought to my attention regarding a series called The Amazing Digital Circus, which is currently available on streaming platforms including Netflix. At first glance, the programme may appear to be aimed at young children due to its colourful animation, cartoon-style characters and playful title. However, the content is intended for an older audience and includes themes and scenes that many parents may find unsuitable for primary-aged children. The show carries a 12 rating on Netflix and includes content warnings for violence, language and drug misuse. Some episodes contain scenes that could be upsetting for younger viewers, including depictions of injury, threatening situations and other disturbing imagery presented in an animated format.

Year 3 trip to the Iron Age Museum

Finally, Year 3 embarked on the first school enrichment trip for this academic year. Aligning with their History topic and launching their learning about Ancient Britain, the children walked to the Iron Age Museum in Andover, where they enhanced their historical knowledge and experienced an Ancient Britain immersion day.  A fun and informative day for our Year three historians!

Wishing you all a lovely weekend.

Attendance this week

Please think carefully before keeping your child away from school.

As parents and carers, you have a responsibility to inform the school before 9.00am every day if your child will not be in school; this can be done via the Arbor app, by emailing the attendance email address: attendance@vigo.hants.sch.uk or by calling the school and selecting option 1.

More about attendance at Vigo >>

Lateness

Please ensure your child is at school at 8:35am ready for the school day.

You may be invited into school for a meeting with our Attendance Support Worker if lateness is persistent.

Unfortunately, due to updated government guidelines, non-attendance of this meeting could result in a penalty notice or referral to the Legal Intervention Team.
