Message From Mrs Dance

As another busy week comes to a close, I would like to thank our pupils, staff and families for their continued support and positivity. It has been a week filled with achievement, excitement and an important opportunity to showcase all that makes Vigo Primary School such a special place to learn and grow.

🏊 Year 4 Swimming Success

We are delighted that Year 4 swimming lessons have successfully commenced this week. The children have approached their first sessions with enthusiasm, confidence and excellent behaviour. Swimming is an important life skill, and we look forward to seeing the children's progress over the coming weeks as they develop their water confidence and swimming abilities.

A huge thank you to the staff who accompanied the visits and to families for ensuring children arrived prepared for their sessions.

⭐ Ofsted Inspection

Many of you will be aware that we welcomed Ofsted inspectors to Vigo Primary School on Tuesday and Wednesday this week.

I would like to thank our pupils, staff, governors and parents for their support throughout the inspection process. Our children represented the school exceptionally well, demonstrating their enthusiasm for learning, respectful behaviour and pride in being part of the Vigo community.

We are grateful to those parents who completed the Parent View survey and spoke with inspectors. Your feedback and support are greatly appreciated.

As is standard practice, we are unable to discuss the outcomes of the inspection until the final report has been published. We look forward to sharing the report with you as soon as it becomes available.

🌟 Celebrating Our Values

It has been wonderful to see so many examples of kindness, resilience and respect displayed across the school this week. Whether in classrooms, on the playground or during sporting activities, our pupils continue to demonstrate the values that make us proud every day.

Thank you for your continued partnership and support.

Have a wonderful weekend.

Please ensure your child is at school at 8:35am ready for the school day.

You may be invited into school for a meeting with our Attendance Support Worker if lateness is persistent.

Unfortunately, due to updated government guidelines, non-attendance of this meeting could result in a penalty notice or referral to the Legal Intervention Team.

Year R Applications 2027 Reminder

May we remind parents that applications for children to start school in September 2027, are now open via this link:

https://educationonlineportal.hants.gov.uk/EducationOnlinePortal/

Applications must be completed by midnight on Friday 15 January 2027.

We have been asked to share the following guidance about the admissions process:

  • Include three school preferences on the application to maximise the likelihood of receiving an offer at one of your preferred schools.
  • Ensure applications are submitted by the closing date of 15 January 2027.
  • Use the County Council’s school catchment area finder to identify the catchment school for your home address.
  • Read the school’s admission policies to understand how places are allocated and the criteria that apply where a school is oversubscribed.
  • Think about how your child will get to school. See travel to school to help plan your journey and find out if you are eligible for help with transport. You must name your catchment school(s) if you have one, as a preference if you wish to apply for travel assistance.

If you know of a family with a child who might need a school place for next year, please let them know the deadline. There is no process to automatically notify parents and every year some miss the deadline simply because they do not know that they need to apply now.

CHILDREN WITH DATES OF BIRTH BETWEEN 1 SEPTEMBER 2022 and 31 AUGUST 2023 MUST APPLY FOR SCHOOL PLACES.

Please ask if you are not sure.
