No. 19 Dated 31 January 2025

Message From Mrs Dance

Dear Parents and Carers,

I hope that this week’s newsletter finds you all well following a very stormy start to the week!

I have been sent a request from Parking Enforcement to politely remind our school community to not park on the grass verges. They have told me that they will be increasing their presence at drop off and collection times of the school day. I do understand that the limited parking around the school site is frustrating for everyone, however we must, as a community, keep our children and families safe. To that end, it is great to see our fantastic new lollipop person out at these busy times supporting road safety. I continue to liaise with the council to put in place further initiatives and strategies and I appreciate your support in this matter.

This week I have continued to spend time out and about at breaktimes and lunchtimes following school plans to improve our provision to ensure that these are positive and successful periods of the school day for everyone. It has been wonderful to see the children engaging in positive play with the staff team. The dance zones have become a big hit- I love to hear the children singing along to the songs as well as seeing them (and the staff) dancing along to the beat!

Our website is continuing to be developed so that it is a window to our school. We have updated the photographs on the pages and are adding more and more content to our curriculum and class pages. The update of our website is an ongoing development strategy, so please visit the site regularly to see what updates have been made so far. Vigo Primary School - Home

I am delighted to be able to share that following your generosity at our Winter Fayre, our new online reading system has been purchased and training of all our staff is about to start.

Wishing you all a lovely weekend.

Attendance this week

Please think carefully before keeping your child away from school.

As parents and carers you have a responsibility to inform the school before 9.00am every day if your child will not be in school, this can be done via the Arbor app, by emailing the attendance email address: attendance@vigo.hants.sch.uk or by calling the school and selecting option 1.

Lateness

We have recently noticed a significant rise in lateness.

Please ensure your child is at school at 8:35am ready for the school day. You may be invited into school for a meeting with our Attendance Support Worker if lateness is persistent. Unfortunately, due to updated government guidelines, non-attendance of this meeting could result in a penalty notice or referral to the Legal Intervention Team.

Dress Down Clothing

Please can parents and carers be mindful that the clothing worn on dress down days should be appropriate for the learning environment.

Head Lice

We have been made aware of head lice in multiple year groups in school. It is recommended that all parents across the whole school check their child’s hair at least weekly.

We would ask ALL parents to check hair and treat as necessary. It’s frustrating when parents clear their child’s hair only for them to catch them again!

Advice from the NHS:

Lice and nits can be removed by wet combing. You can buy a special fine-toothed comb (detection comb) online or from pharmacies to remove head lice and nits. There may be instructions on the pack, but usually you:

Wash hair with ordinary shampoo, apply lots of conditioner (any conditioner will do).

Comb the whole head of hair, from the roots to the ends.

Wet comb on days 1, 5, 9 and 13 to catch any newly hatched head lice. Check again that everyone's hair is free of lice on day 17.
