Junior Governors

Welcome to our Junior Governor page.

We are representatives from each year group who meet to discuss current ideas and concerns that the children at Vigo primary school may have. Our intention is to support the children, staff governors and senior leadership team at Vigo to develop our school so that it grows from strength to strength. Pupil voice is important, and we represent this important role within the school by talking to our classmates and meeting with each other weekly, supported by Mr Stott.

This academic year (2024/25) we have achieved:

Meeting with Mrs Johnson, our school's Chair of Governors, to share what we do and what is important to the children at Vigo. We look forward to meeting with her again in this final half-term of the academic year.

Supported the Purple Oak charity by raising money to donate to this valuable local charity which supports our community.

Successfully rebranded our school houses – we established the new names by enabling our classmates to vote; designed the icons to represent each house; communicated the changes to all stakeholders and created two house displays in each school hall. We also created and now use house flags for each house which were displayed on sports day.

What are we currently working on?

We completed our London Trip!

The Junior Governors, along with a few lucky students from across the school, went with Mr Stott, Mrs Dance, Mr Kew, Mrs Johnson (Governor) and Mrs Tucker (Governor). After a long journey on the coach, we arrived and had a tour of Parliament. We saw the history of British democracy and learnt lots about the democratic process. Luckily, we were allowed entry into the House of Lords and saw the golden throne that the king sits on when he visits. After that, we then enjoyed a picnic lunch in the parliament gardens before touring some of London's tourist sites, including 10 Downing Street, Westminster Abbey, Elizabeth Tower and the London Eye. Attached below are some of our pictures from the day.

We will be updating the page regularly to give you an insight into what we have discussed and what we have achieved-so please come back and visit this page when you can.
