Who are our Dog Mentors?
Ralph and Hattie are part of the Nurture team here in Vigo. Ralph lives with Mrs Parry (his human) and Hattie lives with Mrs Dance (her human). They both come to school to support the children and staff with their emotional well-being. Both Ralph and Hattie have undertaken their dog mentor training, so that they can help us to make a calm and regulated school.
Ralph is a very laid-back golden retriever, he enjoys lying down, being stroked and, of course, a delicious treat! Hattie is a friendly and energetic labrador. She loves chasing balls, being stroked and snoozing in the afternoon. Whilst at school, both Hattie and Ralph's safe spaces are either in The Meadow or Mrs Dance's office.
To ensure that Ralph and Hattie can carry out their important role effectively, they come in on different days so that we have a calming pooch in school for most of the week.

Mrs Parry (Ralph's human), Miss Phillips, Mrs Matthews and Mrs Mallon (Nurture team) and Mrs Dance (HT) are working with the Dog Mentor team to develop Ralph and Hattie's therapy skills. How do I approach Ralph and Hattie?
It is important that all humans approach Ralph and Hattie in a polite and respectful way. We follow the PAWS approach. This approach ensures that Ralph and Hattie are ready and welcoming for human interaction as part of their therapy role.
