Forest School

At Vigo Primary School, we believe that our children should have access to learning that is both inside and outside. Learning outside offers a unique and immersive experience that can significantly enhance language acquisition. At Vigo, we have a dedicated team of Forest School professionals led by Mr Hodgson and supported by Mrs Marney and Miss Howarth.

Children get the opportunity through our progressive curriculum to develop and enhance their forest school skills, which encapsulate flora and fauna, survival and food. We encourage our children through the curriculum to take risks within an adult-supported environment as well as to collaborate within  teams and develop their leadership skills.  We enhance our curriculum to include first aid, bike ability and road safety.

Forest school takes place in all weathers and across the seasons. We work with the children and families to ensure that the children are dressed appropriately for their learning.

As part of our enrichment curriculum, we offer a Forest school after-school club during term time and a holiday club called 'Sticks and Stones'. These can be booked via the school office or through our holiday club HAF team.

This part of our broad and balanced curriculum supports the whole child and is an experience that our children thoroughly enjoy.

We are currently in the process of developing a Forest School diploma that the children can attain as an extra addition to our curriculum offer.
