Service Children and Families
At Vigo, we are proud to support children from Service families and recognise the unique experiences and challenges that military life can bring. We understand that frequent relocations, parental deployment, and periods of separation can impact children's emotional wellbeing, learning, and social development.
We are committed to ensuring that every Service child feels welcomed, valued, and fully included in school life. Through a nurturing and supportive environment, we help children settle quickly, build positive relationships, and achieve their full potential both academically and personally.
How We Support Service Children
- Providing a warm and effective transition process for pupils joining our school.
- Supporting children through periods of parental deployment and family separation.
- Promoting emotional wellbeing through pastoral care and wellbeing activities.
- Helping children develop friendships and a strong sense of belonging.
- Identifying and responding to individual needs through close communication with families.
- Celebrating the positive contributions and experiences of Service families within our school community.
Working in Partnership
We value strong partnerships with parents, carers, military units, and external agencies to ensure that children receive appropriate support throughout their education. Open communication enables us to understand each child's circumstances and provide the best possible care and guidance.
Mrs Matthews, a member of our Nurture Inclusion Base, supports our service children and families; running a club that children can attend if they wish to.
As part of our support, we have access to third-party professionals which can be accessed by parents and families as well. The links to these professionals can be found below:

Service Pupil Premium
The school receives Service Pupil Premium funding for eligible pupils. This funding is used to provide additional support to help mitigate the effects of mobility, deployment, and separation. Funding is carefully targeted to improve wellbeing, engagement, academic progress, and inclusion.
If you are a member of a Service family and would like further information about the support available, please contact the school office (adminoffice@vigo.hants.sch.uk).
We are always happy to discuss how we can help your child thrive during their time with us.
