At Vigo Primary school we believe that learning effective communication through speaking, listening, reading and writing is fundamental to future happiness as well as to academic success. We believe English is a powerful tool with which to explore our school values and develop empathy and tolerance through the text choice and the characters and topics explored within.

At the end of their time at Vigo we want every child to:

• Be able to communicate effectively for a wide range of purposes

• To have the confidence and ability to use language to effect change in the world for themselves and others

• Understand the role and power of oral and written language

• To find pleasure in the act of reading and writing and appreciate their intrinsic value.
