THE MAYA VIRTUAL WORKSHOP
Year 5 have been given an exciting opportunity to take part in a virtual workshop about ancient Mayan history, on the 12th October 2021. This will be run by Cadbury world.

Uncover the wonders of The Maya’s involvement in the early history of cocoa with a fascinating virtual workshop with Cadbury World, linked to Key Stage 1 and 2, The Ancient Civilisations curriculum.
We will introduce the legacy of the Maya within Mesoamerica and how they relate to the greater history of the region.
We will discuss Mayan architecture and the importance of different areas within their cities including Temples, Pok-a-Tok courts and Cenotes.
We will explore the rich Mayan religious mythos and how their beliefs influence their daily life; whilst delving into Mayan Language and their sacred texts known as the Codex.
We will reveal how the Mayans utilised the cocoa bean within their culture and how it influenced their diet as well as its importance in other areas of the Mayan culture.
This virtual session also features video and audio to enhance the student’s experience.
Primary Curriculum – History: Pupils will understand the achievements of the earliest civilisations in a non-European society that provides contrasts with British history. Look at events beyond living memory that are significant nationally or globally. Take a closer look at a non-European society that provides contrast with British history - Mayan civilizations c.AD 900.
